Computing 

At Kinnerley CE Primary School, we aim to deliver a Computing Curriculum that enables the children to become confident, discerning and effective users of Technology, ensuring they have a good understanding of computers and computer systems, and how they are designed and programmed.
Our provision across the school allows our children the opportunity to develop skills across the three main strands of Computing; computer science, digital literacy and information technology, by revisiting and building upon prior knowledge.
The Computing Curriculum at Kinnerley Primary school aims to ensure that all children:

• can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation

• can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems

• can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems

• are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology

This is achieved through the discrete teaching of Computing and the cross-curricular use of technology and computational thinking to support learning in other areas of the curriculum.

EYFS

In Early Years, children will be taught about and use a range of everyday technology. They will be able to select appropriate applications that support an identified need- for example, deciding how best to make a record of a special event in their lives. They have access to Ipads, BeeBots and Laptops as part of their provision.

Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2

We follow the Teach Computing Curriculum, which has been created by subject experts, based on the latest pedagogical research and teacher feedback.
It follows the three main strands of Computer Science, Digital Literacy and Information Technology, allowing the children to develop their skills and understanding and preparing them for life beyond the classroom.

Information Technology is taught through a cross-curricular approach, giving the children the opportunity to explore, design and create pieces of work linked to their topic.
