Music

At Kinnerley we want Music to be a positive and enjoyable experience for our whole school community. We want to not only teach music skills but to harness the power of music to enhance our well being, engagement, connection and sense of joy.

Our aim is for pupils to participate in a range of musical experiences, whilst building up their confidence. They develop their understanding of rhythm and pitch and how music is structured, as well as learning technical vocabulary for these elements. As pupils’ confidence build, they will enjoy the performance aspect of music. Pupils will experience listening to music from different cultures and eras.

Elements include Singing, Playing Instruments, Improvising and Exploring, Composing, Listening and Appraising.

Wherever possible we aim to extend and enhance our pupils’ experience with opportunities such as the option of taking up musical instrument lessons, singing at local, regional or national events, participating in dramas, performances and plays, and experiencing live music and musical performances. Following the publication of the National Plan for Music Education June 2022 we are working to develop further enrichment activities as we are fully aware that Music really does have the power to change lives.
